European road trip ideas?
My dad and I will be going to Paris, France at the end of May. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a fun road trip we could take to see the countryside of a few reachable countries.
Thanks!

go to google maps…you’ll see
In Paris, you’re relatively close to the Belgian border; and Belgium is small enough that you can also easily drive right into Luxembourg or the Netherlands–they’re all very close to each other. You’re also not far from the German border if you go up to any of those three countries; in Luxembourg and southeast Belgium you’re close to the old German city of Trier, and in the eastern part of the Netherlands you’re fairly close to Aachen, Dortmund, Essen, even Koln (Cologne). You can also drive due east on the toll freeway from Paris to Germany, although it takes a few hours… but that drive also takes you past Disneyland Paris, as well as through some famous French regions (Lorraine, Champagne, northern Alsace) and cities (Reims, Metz). There’s also the UK, too; you can take either a ferry or the Chunnel from Calais to Dover, but don’t rule out air travel. There are plenty of very very cheap flights to and from the UK and Ireland, as well as to other places in Europe, on carriers like Ryanair, Easyjet, and SkyEurope. If you really want to drive a long way, you can drive south to the Spanish border (Andorra lies on the border between the two, as well), or southeast to Switzerland, Monaco, and Italy… but Spain, Andorra, Switzerland, Monaco, and Italy are all comparitively far from Paris, depending on how long you have, if you insist on driving, and how much money you mind shelling out on gas… Americans pay less than half what western Europeans pay. I’m more knowledgable on Germany than France since I lived in Germany, but I can offer more specific ideas if you like. I’ve been to most of the countries I’ve just listed (I’ve never been to Andorra or Monaco, nor to mainland Spain, and not very much of Italy).
