Is Paris, France , boring?

Hey, well let me explain. I’m 16 and next summer (2010) I will be given a trip for a week anywhere by my parents. I have narrowed down the cities i’d like to go to to Madrid, Spain and Paris, France. Now, my aunt who has gone to paris says it is extremely boring and that “there is absolutely nothing to do there but shop and go to museums”. Is this true? Exaclty what is there to do in Paris for young people, I don’t dislike going to museums or anything but I could do that here (in Chicago) and I don’t think going to Paris only to shop is “fun” . So what exactly can I do in Paris? I don’t want to regret going I mean just to try food and shop , if that was the case every city in the world is special. I need help to make my decision and please do not answer if you’ve never been there. If i don’t decide i’ll just go to Madrid since i have family there and it’s quite fun. Thank you all
lol thank you all, well that’s the thing me myself I love to go on tours and anything that has to do with water stuff like that that’s why I asked what can I do in paris lol.

& i won’t go to china because i’m way to scared to go there idk why I considered Japan but europe is more me hehe

How can you be bored in one of the greatest cities in the world. You will never run out of things to do and places to visit from Paris !!!!
What a great gift from your parents !!!!
By the way…..try for a month long stay…….. a week is never enough time !!!!

What great parents!

But I think your aunt has just about summed up every major city in the civilized world. Loads of shops, museums, and places where someone famous either was born, lived, died, or is buried.

As you say, you can go to museums in Chicago, you don’t mention any of your interests so it’s difficult to recommend anything.

I live in Paris and it’s not boring at all!!!!!!!!!! There are more things to do in Paris than Madrid

With all due respect to your aunt, her assessment of Paris says far more about her than it does about that city. Paris is definitely not boring. As someone else already pointed out, however, you don’t specify what you enjoy doing, so it’s difficult to offer suggestions. But Paris has something for everyone.

I’m not going to be as pleasant as David. Quite frankly, anyone who thinks that Paris is “boring” is a tasteless, illiterate, half wit.

(And as nice as Chicago is there is no comparison of its museums with those in Paris.)

Paris is a town that is open all night. Many clubs stay open till sunrise. (Bars rarely check IDs by the way) There are people constantly in the street. There are venues for every type of music imaginable.

The food is fabulous. The women are beautiful.

Mainly its Paris. This is the place where people like F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce and Hemingway used to hang out. You can go to a place like the Cafe Procope, the oldest cafe in Paris, and sit in the same booth that Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin sat and had a glass of wine. You can hang out at Le Mazet where Jim Morrison had his last drink.

You can walk the streets and see the locations where dozens of famous movies are set. You can walk on streets that Roman legionnaires used to walk or have a cup of coffee at the Cafe de Deux Magots where Jean Paul Sartre held forth.

You’d be out of your mind to go anyplace else.

You want something specific to do?

Join the least exclusive club in the world. The Café Metropole Club meets every Thursday afternoon. To “join” all you have to do is show up. Read about it here: http://www.metropoleparis.com/aclub.html

Try the Friday night skate thru the streets. read about it here: http://www.pari-roller.com/index.php?p=101

Have Sunday dinner with an icon of the 1960’s free love, hippy, movement. Jim Haynes is still crazy after all these years. An American he helped organize the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, co-founded “Suck” (a magazine about sexual issues) in Amsterdam, and taught Media Studies and Sexual Politics at the University of Paris 8. He holds a dinner party every Sunday night at his atelier. Read about it here: http://www.jim-haynes.com/

you can smoke and drink in paris, so what do you think?!

but europe in general is boring (im 17 BTW), why got to europe when you could go to somewhere amazing like tokyo or shanghai?, all im saying is you should look into these cities and other ones outside europe if you want something truly different and exciting!

All i can think is French Kiss…

Paris is an amazing city. There are so many things to do and see, i promise you will not be bored. Paris has many many things, you could take a boat ride on the Seine river, you can visit the Palace of Versailles, The Notre Dome Cathedral, The Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triumph. Also The Louvre Museum is very amazing, it is home to Mona Lisa!!! There are also many places to shop, many cafes and dining areas. I recommend you go to a Boulangerie, it is a bakery/cafe. It has croissants and baggets(bread). Paris is also very beautiful at night, the Eiffel Tower sparkles!!! Just look around to find amazing things to do. Have Fun, and take lots of pictures, this is a trip you will not want to forget. God Bless :)

Go to Amsterdam rather -lots for young folk to do.

I am 31, and have been visiting paris a few times to see how I liked the idea of living there - and to be honest yes it is the most dreadful boring place on earth. Paris and all of France is very insular, there is no international, cosmopolitan culture in Paris - it feels like an old woman… like the mona lisa. It is a beautiful city - but beyond that - very little to do besides eat, drink, eat, drink more, shop go to museums and look at the eiffel tower… after 2 months in Paris I hated the site of that ugly tower… and the tourists around there are vile. The French are also very boring people to interact with.. they have zero sense of humour.. are wayyyyy too serious about life and LAZY as hell…but on top of all this they are all Stuck up.. in the south of France people are more fun actually.. but in Paris awful.. like depressed souls wandering around. Anyway - I am done with Paris dont think will ever return back… Madrid, Barcelona have a lot more life to them.. and even Milan is more exciting.. Paris clubs are also dreadful.. try them… to me Paris is an old lady getting older very fast and seriously needs a FACELIFT but is too proud to get one.
